خط تولید کامل شامپو، شامپو از یک واژه هندو به نام چامپانا (Champana) به معنای ماساژ دادن گرفته شده‌است. قبل از پیدایش شامپو به صورت امروزی، مردم برای شستشوی موی خود از مواد گیاهی مانند سدر و چوبک و کتیرا و مواد معدنی مانند خاکهای سیلیسی استفاده می‌نمودند.
